George Orwell (real name — Eric Arthur Blair) was an English prose writer, essayist, journalist, and critic. His work is marked by sharp social criticism, opposition to totalitarianism, and open support for the democratic aspirations of humanity. He was the author and popularizer in political discourse of the term "Cold War." The novella "Animal Farm" — one of the most famous allegorical works in the world — was first published on August 17, 1945.
