Letters from Santa Claus

Every December, J.R.R. Tolkien's children received an envelope stamped with the North Pole, and inside was a letter written in whimsical, fine handwriting and decorated with wonderful color drawings. All these letters were from Santa Claus and told amazing stories about life at the North Pole: how reindeer broke free from their tethers and scattered presents all over the place; how the talentless Polar Bear climbed the ice polar spire and fell from there to the house of Santa Claus, falling through the roof; how that Bear broke the Moon into four pieces, and because of that the Moonman fell from the sky into the Grandfather's garden; how wars were fought with the hordes of kapos goblins who lived in the caves under the house. Sometimes the White Bear would scribble a postscript, and sometimes Ilbert the Elf would add something in his elegant flowing handwriting, adding even more life and humor to these stories.
